What is infrared?

Infrared radiation (IR) is electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength longer than that of visible light, but shorter than that of radio waves. This radiating energy penetrates the body and heats it directly and more efficiently through a process called conversion.

Why is an Infrared Sauna better than regular heat in a conventional sauna?

Far infrared heat directly penetrates the body’s tissues to a depth of over 1½ inches. It reaches right into the muscle to soothe and relax naturally and safely.

A conventional steam sauna relies only on indirect heat: The skin must absorb the heat out of the surrounding air. With our Infrared heat, less than 20% of the far infrared energy heats the air, leaving over 80% available to be directly converted to heat within our bodies.

Contraindications for use of Infrared Sauna Therapy

  • Prescription Drugs: Always check with your physician or pharmacist for possible interactions with a drugs affect due the use of an infrared sauna.
  • Certain Diseases: Raising the core temperature may be contraindicated for individuals with adrenal suppression, multiple sclerosis, or systemic lupus erythematosus.
  • Joint Conditions: An acute joint injury should not be heated within the first 48 hours, or until the joint erythema and swelling subsides.
  • Pregnancy: When pregnant, it is recommended to discontinue use of infrared saunas immediately.
