Panchakarma

What is Panchakarma

Also known as seasonal Detox and Rejuvenation, or PK in short, Panchakarma is a unique, natural, holistic, health restoring process. This powerful detoxification program involves a mix of nutrition, herbal medicine, and dosha balancing therapies and practices to purify the body and mind. During a Panchakarma Program, which generally lasts for 5 days or a couple of weeks or even more, you will receive a series of health-restoring Ayurvedic treatments to cleanse, rejuvenate and balance the body, mind and consciousness. You will also be performing internal purgation, while staying on a mono diet and herbal regime. Ayurveda recommends performing these procedures for each change of season, which is very beneficial for overall health, wellness and self-healing.

Benefits of Panchakarma
Our toxic world and ever-increasing pace of life is causing our physical and mental systems to accumulate toxins very rapidly, which leads to the deterioration in bodily functioning. This eventually weakens our health, which opens the door to the manifestation of chronic, degenerative, and sometimes deadly diseases. Unchecked toxic developments will ultimately damage one’s health, wellness and happiness.

Panchakarma can reverse these negative effects and restore your balanced state of health and wellness by:

  • Cleansing toxins, it will rejuvenate your immune system and bodily functions, and balance your autonomous nerve system.
  • Opening the body’s subtle energy channels to increase vitality and inner awareness while enhancing the life force.
  • Eliminating mental, physical, and emotional toxins.
  • Reversing the aging process through balance and rejuvenation.
  • Creating deep relaxation, it restores body and mind to a cellular level sense of wellness.
  • In addition, Ayurvedic life style changes can bring positive energy to sustain your natural state of being.

Before Panchakarma
You will be given Pre-PK instructions to prepare yourself prior to your arrival to maximize your scheduled Panchakarma experience. One of our PK Coordinators will call you in time to answer any questions you might have.

During Panchakarma
Each day during PK, you will receive two hours of Ayurvedic treatments to prepare your body to Detox and Balance. Treatments consist of:

Abhyanga: Warm Herbal Oil (prepared based on your constitution) massage to separate excess toxins (doshas) from your tissues and move them towards your GI tract to be eliminated.

Shirodhara : Pouring of warm oil in a slow steady stream on your forehead while laying on the table.

Swedana : The steam induces sweating to liquefy the toxins and increases the movement of toxins through the channels.

These treatments profoundly relax the body and mind, improve the flow of energy by opening the channels of circulation and prepare the body to eliminate excess doshas (vata, pitta, kapha) on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels. After a few days of these treatments, the excess doshas will ripen and be ready to be flushed from the system. You may be advised to do the following to facilitate the elimination of the toxins (ama):

Herbal Enema : for which you will be given the herbs, equipment and directions to administer yourself; or as an option, colon therapy with herbs and oil is available at an additional cost.

Herbal Purgation : for which you will be given the herbs and instruction to cleanse internal organs. The herbal recommendation can vary based on the individual’s physical condition.

Daily, you will meet with your PK consultant to discuss how your program is going and to provide you with various information regarding daily routine, lifestyle. This is also a good time to answer questions that you might have and to plan together how to implement these principles in your life when you complete the program.

Also during PK, you will be provided with special diet of Kitchari (rice and mung dahl dish). If you don’t like Kitchari, we will find other form of diet which will work for the program. The kitchari mono diet has a detoxifying action and is nutritious and easy digest.
